In 1981 the foundation of "Das & Boom" (English translation: Badger and Tree) was established. Their aim was to protect the "protected" animal species and their habitat in The Netherlands (to the website of Das & Boom). Initially they committed themselves especially for the restoration of the habitats of Mustelids and protested against the degradation of these habitats.
For in situ information they depended strongly on outsiders like hunters, farmers, private-land owners and civilians as well as other nature conservation organisations, due to a shortage of volunteers.
In 1989 the Badgergroup of Brabant was established. This (independent) workgroup consists of a select group of enthusiastic volunteers, all specialised in badgers. Their aim was to deliver as much reliable information about badgers as possible and thereabouts in the Dutch Province of Brabant, in order to protect our Provincial badgers as well as possible. When necessary they also assisted in catching and reintroducing badgers.
Because Das & Boom is the only independent organisation in The Netherlands protecting the badgers in the entire country, they nowadays act as an umbrella organisation for the different Provincial badger workgroups.
Gradually Das & Boom shifted its' course, and has been aiming itself more to the protection, maintenance and development of badger habitat, even in places that are not inhabited by badgers yet.
Badger habitat has a preferably small-scaled arrangement and is particularly rich in flora and fauna. This change of course is not only exceptionally beneficial to nature in general, but also for the people who can enjoy the environment and recreate in harmony with nature.
Badgers are neither the possession of the government nor the possession of nature conservation organisations. They are co-residents of the Province of Brabant that are entitled to a good live in our beautiful landscape.
On the 21st of April 2006 the Badgergroup officially became a foundation. This way the Badgergroup is able to expand its activities and give the Badger in Brabant the status which it deservers by providing information, collecting and spreading data and accomplishing fieldwork.

Objective of the foundation:
g The protection of the Badger in Brabant and its habitat.
g Providing information to landowners and -users, managing organisations and other parties
and interested individuals.
g Tracing disturbance and abuses regarding to individual Badgers and populations.
g Visualising tendencies towards distribution, population development, mortality, etcetera.
This objective is achieved through:
g Survey's, observations and field studies.
g Examining Badger setts and facilities.
g Collecting, processing and spreading information regarding Badgers in Brabant.
g Participation in several consultation forms.
g Maintaining contact with individuals and authorities.
g Providing informative symposia and lectures.
g Managing and maintaining of Badger setts.
For all of this, financial recourses are indispensable.
Therefore we ask you for a casual contribution, which will directly or indirectly support the Badger in the province of Brabant. Because we all work as volunteers, every Euro will be spent in favour of the Badger. The bigger your contribution, the more goals we can achieve.
You can support the foundation by depositing a contribution on bank account 1218.82.934 (Rabobank Boxmeer) mentioning 'Stichting Dassenwerkgroep Brabant' (Badgergroup Brabant) and 'contribution'.
This orphaned badgercub is wandering outside the Badgersett in broad daylight in search of food. This little creature has no chance to survive, without intervention of one of the Badgergroup's volunteers.
